Cut Steel shoe buckles.
Steel, metal. Each max. 57.92 x 46.92 mm. Together 43.0 g.
Shoe buckles made of cut steel (steel rivets applied to a base). From the late 18th century until the 1930s, various types of jewelry were made from cut steel, especially in England. Although shoe buckles are more likely to have been made at the end of the 18th century with regard to the prevailing shoe fashions, the present pieces can probably be dated to the 19th century, perhaps as parts of a high-quality historical costume or as part of the Rococo interest in the middle of the century.
