Here, he used the painting board on the front for a study of flowers and on the back for a landscape study. Signs of age; the study on the reverse is damaged.
Baltic German painter from Estonia; trained in Cologne and Weimar; later moved to Munich, where he worked in the museum department at the Pinakothek; appointed to the Wallraf-Richartz Museum in Cologne in 1930. He was active as an artist there, best known for his landscapes and still lifes.
