Commemorative medal for rescue from danger, 1st form .
The first number is only the number of the consignor / Here 1st mintage). Commemorative medal for rescue from danger 1st form This commemorative medal for rescue from danger was introduced on September 23, 1833 by order of King Frederick William III. After the foundation of the Medal of Merit for Rescue from Danger, also called Rescue Medal on Ribbon, the Commemorative Medal was established as 2nd class. This commemorative medal is much larger than the rescue medal on the ribbon and not portable. The dimensions and weight are about the same as the medal donated in 1802 for rewarding the deeds in danger of life. The commemorative medal was issued in 4 different mintings . The 1st mintage shown here has the signature of the die cutter and a larger rosette on the obverse under the neck section. On the edge may be stamped the wearer's name. The 2nd mintage, from 1870 to 1881, has a smaller rosette on the obverse and larger lettering on the reverse (For Rescue from Danger) as a distinguishing feature. The 3rd mintage, from 1882 to 1911, no longer has the die cutter's signature and has a slightly different head portrait of the king. The 4th mintage, from 1911 to 1918, has v-shaped horizontal strokes in the letters A on the reverse as a distinguishing feature. The mintage numbers of the individual models are given as follows: 1st mintage about 1500 pieces, 2nd mintage about.420 pieces, 3rd mintage about 1350 pieces and the 4th mintage about 310 pieces. The weight of the medals varies a little. The 1st mold shown here weighs 58.5 g and the 3rd mold 55.3 g.
