Antique allegory
Bronze patinated. Inscribed with date "1912", foundry mark "Guss v. Pirner & Franz, Dresden", Greek inscription on the base ("Kenne dich selbst"), indistinct Greek inscription on the scroll ("verdammttes Glück"?). H 44 cm. 4.2 kg.
Ephebe standing naked in a contrapposto with taenia in his hair, leaning against the herm with a bust of Athena and holding a scroll in his right hand. Musical instruments, a torch, laurel and theatrical masks are in relief on the bronze base. Patina partially stained.
Sculptor in Dresden, studied at the academy ibid. and was a master student of Ernst Hähnel, whose close collaborator he was until 1881.
