Brooch featuring a portrait of a woman.
Tested 585 yellow gold; the pin is base metal. The rose gold frame cannot be trsted to protect the object. Diameter of the brooch: 31.84 mm; diameter of the miniature painting: approx. 18.36 mm. 6.4 g.
Overall, likely the second half of the 19th century. Set in a wreath alternating between small, inlaid pearls and pearls strung on a wire; behind the glass is a round portrait of a lady in a light blue dress with a fichu and powdered hair, covered by a large bonnet with a blue bow in the style of the 1770s/1780s. The pin has a safety clasp. Overall, with slight age-appropriate signs of wear; a minimal loss in the painting diagonally above the bow on the bonnet, scratches on the reverse, the pearls showing some signs of wear consistent with their age, the pin’s safety clasp added at a later date. Overall, likely a historical combination of different parts: presumably an older miniature in a rose gold frame set into the brooch mount with a pearl wreath (solder joint at the 5 o’clock position on the frame), which was then further enhanced with a second pearl wreath (see solder joints on the back).
