German painter, graphic artist and designer, studied at the Dresden Academy and later at the Karlsruhe Academy under F. Keller. Also studied at the Académie Julian Paris. Since 1890 he works as a freelance artist in Berlin. Since 1903 professor at the art school in Weimar. One of the pioneers of the "New Weimar" movement. Since 1916 professor at the academy in Dresden. Some works were classified as "degenerate" in 1937.
