French-Swiss painter and internationally renowned modernist sculptor who gained fame primarily for her Nana figures, "I was completely surprised that they caused such an outrage. I don't think the Nanas are my best works, but I hit the zeitgeist with them. Feminism was just coming up, and even though I was never officially in the women's movement, I'm a feminist through and through. That's always been a strong driver in my life. And if you look at my generation, I might be the artist who built the biggest sculptures. I'm crazy about size, I have delusions of grandeur - but a feminine one, that's something else."
