German painter, graphic artist, architect, designer, pedagogue, writer, and socialist; belonged to the first generation of the artists' colony Worpswede: "What distinguishes Heinrich Vogeler among the other artists of Art Nouveau and Symbolism is the light-hearted fairy-tale-like quality of his world of pictures with their great fabulation.
