Horsemen in heated combat on wide field under cloudy sky. Verso old adhesive note with inscription by R. Wiegmann "Surrounding picture (...) by Dietrich Monten in Munich was purchased by the Hanoverian Art Society at 12 Louis d'or, I won with my share No. 871 at the exhibition in 1835 (...)". Slight traces of age.
Historical, battle, and genre painter, graphic artist, pupil of the Düsseldorf Academy since 1821 and in Munich under P. Hess.

Provenance: from the possession of the painter Rudolf Wiegmann (1804-1865), jury member in the Kunstverein Hannover.
