Inscribed on the reverse. Glazed gold frames. Paint chipping on the edge.
Schleicher (pronounced Schléijer), probably of Jewish origin, genre and portrait painter. Pupil of Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller. Active in Vienna from about 1853 until after 1871. Represented at exhibitions at the Austrian Art Association. Spent the last years of his life in Padua. According to the latest knowledge, the artist's name is Cölestin Schleicher and not as incorrectly referred to in the literature as Carl * Partner auction Bergmann.
