Pair of Art Nouveau vases in Viennese style.
Imitated banded shield mark, 2nd h. 19th c.
Polychrome painted, gold decorated, iridescent. H 54 cm.
Elegant slender vases with ovoid body, crater neck, knob lid and round base. Bordeaux red, voluptuous background with rich gold floral relief painting, on the obverse side of each a large oval cartouche depicting Venus, Aeneas and Achates pointing the way to Carthage and Hector, calling Paris to battle, respectively. Both depictions after paintings by Angelika Kauffmann (1741-1807), inscribed in the margin "A. Kauffmann". Lid knobs glued.
