French grand vase.
Unmarket, 1st half 19th c.
Polychrome painted, gold decorated, partly gold bronzed; bronze mounting. H 56 cm.
Amphora vase with two leaf and mascaron handles, crater neck and round base, mounted on a bronze base. On the front the finely painted depiction of the dying Jean-Baptiste Poquelin alias Molière, after a 1806 painting by French painter Pierre-Auguste Vafflard (1777-1837). Verso depicting a southern landscape with ruins, palm trees and staffage of people. Partially gold somewhat rubbed, partly regilded.
