German painter and graphic artist; civil rights activist of the GDR, who gained notoriety as a co-founder of the civil movement "New Forum". In 1995 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class and in 2016 in Berlin -Mitte the Bärbel Bohley Ring named after her.
