RUSSIAN PAINTER 20th CENTURY,
Hotel Moskva in the center of Moscow
Watercolor. Cyrillic monogrammed.
29.5 x 38.5 cm. Framed & behind glass : 46 x 57 cm.
The hotel next to the Red Square was considered the pièce de résistance of the architectural style of the Stalin era after its opening in 1935. For obscure reasons it was demolished in 2004, rebuilt in the old style from 2005 to 2014. Passepartout, glazed frame.
A special feature of the hotel was its asymmetrical facade. Stalin was presented with a plan with two variants of the facade design, he is said to have put his signature in the middle, because no one dared to ask the dictator what he really wanted, the two wings were built just as different as they were on the plan with his signature * Partner auction Bergmann.
