Since the beginnings of the Meissen manufactory, one dealt with the manufacture of clock cases, as evidenced by the extensive collection of the show hall in Meissen. The last great success was achieved by Ludwig Zepner and Heinz Werner with various clocks in the "large cut-out" design. They are relatively rare and are little described in the literature (see Classical Meissen, p. 96, fig. p. 97 and 106, Meissen Porcelain from 1720 to the Present, p. 140). The variant shown here with the decoration "Blaue Orchidee" (Blue Orchid) by Heinz Werner speaks exemplarily for the joy of experimentation and the formal language of the late 1970s. On an organically harmonious base, a perfectly shaped sphere is enthroned on whose flattened side a dial is designed that incorporates both modern and baroque elements. Bold, eccentric, daring ... - Peter Strang succeeds here in making a statement: Meissen design is always on the cutting edge, even more innovative, brash and forward-looking.
