A particularly fine example of Meissen porcelain at the turn of modernity is the vase "Falling Autumn Leaves". On the slender body of the vase by Hans Merz, which is entirely in keeping with the new formal language of the 1950s, Heinz Werner outlines leaves and fruit in sharp fire blue and with delicate colored accents. The red and blue tones applied over a wide area have a very special radiance in this reduction to the essential. The vase is evidence of an early work by Heinz Werner, who later became one of the greatest and most influential artists of Meissen Modernism.
