Daiwa-Hibachi-'Heat Table'.

Rectangular body with handles and four small drawers. In the solid table top recessed a galvanized box open at the top and another compartment with wooden lid. Base and top in different wood grains. In addition, younger, black plastic tray as a cover. One drawer and some moldings are missing, probably also the inner moldings in the plate opening. Signs of use.
Hibachi (Japanese 火鉢 "fire vessel") is a vessel in Japan that holds glowing charcoal to provide heat for living spaces.
Provenance : Acquired in the 2nd half of the 1940s in San Francisco / USA in Chinatown.
