Bronze patinated, black marble base. Marked. H 24.5 cm, overall 27.5 x 23 x 11 cm.
Stallion rearing up with its mouth wide open. Motif taken from the artist's "Lion Fighter on Horseback" in front of the Altes Museum in Berlin. The Saxon Horse Monument was created by Albert Wolff in 1866 and has stood in front of the Guelph Palace in Hanover, today's university, since 1879.
Wolff joined Rauch's workshop in 1831, worked alongside him in the Academy's Act Hall after Antiquity and, after completing his studies, became an assistant to Rauch, in whose most important works of those years he was involved, above all in the equestrian monument to Frederick II. the equestrian monument to Frederick the Great in Berlin and the viaducts for the Walhalla near Regensburg. Since 1866 teacher (Prof.) at the Berlin Academy.
