EISENMENGERS, Johann Andreas
2 volumes "Entdecktes Judenthum"
"oder: Gründlicher und Wahrhaffter Bericht ...".
Königsberg. 1711. 22 x 18 cm.
Famous and notorious anti-Judaicum, the first edition of which was initially prevented in 1700. Numerous quotations in Hebrew and Greek in the text. Each with bookplate by Benjamin Daniel Itzig. Contemporary vellum bindings with spine title. Forwards somewhat foxed, text block browned, bindings with a few traces of age/use (1 tear at the bonnet).
The bookplate designed and printed by Benjamin Wulff probably belongs to Bonem (Benjamin) Daniel Itzig (1756-1833), a son of Daniel Itzig (March 1723 Berlin - 1799 Berlin), who was a royal Prussian court factor and one of the most important Jewish bankers in Prussia. He was also the head of the Jewish community of Berlin and the state elder of the Jewish communities in the Prussian provinces.
