Bentwood armchair.
After 1900.
Beech, stained plywood. H approx. 88 cm, seat height approx. 46 cm.
Timeless design classic with hollow seat. Signs of age/use.
Bentwood is bent under steam using a process developed by Michael Thonet around 1830. After the privilege granted in 1856 to "manufacture furniture from solid bent wood" was annulled in 1869, numerous furniture factories were established - including J. & J. Kohn, who further developed the process so that angular wooden bars could also be processed.
