Compendium of a sundial and a sidereal clock.
18th/19th century
Fire-gilt brass, glazed compass. H 2.5 cm, Ø 9.5 cm (without hands).
Round box with profiled walls. Nocturlabium on the hinged lid with very fine scales (cardinal points, signs of the zodiac, months, days, degrees), standard pointer for setting the date (1x engraved "Sol") and polar pointer with engraving ("Dorsum Ursa Majoris et Luna"). Equatorial sundial with pole on the height-adjustable equatorial ring on the inside above the compass, the pole height quadrant of which is locked in place with a screw. When fully opened, the equatorial ring becomes a horizontal sundial. Engraved polar altitudes on the lid, e.g. Grenada, Paris, Rome, Naples, Cologne, Prague, Vienna, Gdansk, Amsterdam etc. Glazing replaced, polar altitude quadrant possibly replaced, some signs of age/use.
