Pascal Sébah (1823 Istanbul - 1886 Istanbul) was one of the most important professional photographers of his time in the Ottoman Empire. His documentary photographs depicting sights, everyday scenes and oriental costumes were used to illustrate scientific works on the Orient and won several medals. After suffering a brain haemorrhage, the famous photographer entered into a partnership with Polycarpe Charles Joaillier (1848 - 1904) in the 1880s.
