The Birth of Pegasus ("La naissance de Pégase")
Metal casting (Régule), black and bronze patina, dark marble plinth. Inscribed with the addition "Salon des Beaux Arts 1888", foundry mark "Fabrication Française, Paris, Made in France". H 49 cm, total 51 x 38 x 23 cm. 10 kg.
The hero Perseus with winged hat and the head of the slain Gorga Medusa holds the winged horse like a horse tamer, which strives powerfully towards the sky. 1 half of the spear possibly added.
Picault was a sculptor and medallist in Paris, a pupil of Royer. The "Naissance de Pégase" presented at the Salon in 1888 is considered one of his most famous sculptures.
