Landscape detail with hedge framing at the side and figural staffage. The rocks in the foreground are painted in a palette of warm brown tones, the formation behind in slate gray. Passepartout, glazed profiled gold frame.
Girtin, landscape painter, draughtsman, etcher, watercolorist. From 1788 pupil of Edward Dayes, 1794-1798 pupil of Thomas Monro at the Academy. 1794 exhibition debut at the Royal Academy of Arts, in the same year collaboration with William Turner, regular travels through England * partner auction Bergmann.
