Tápies, painter, graphic artist and sculptor, studied at the Académia Valls in Barcelona. In 1948, he co-founded the "Daual Set" group in Barcelona, for whose magazine of the same name he created illustrations. In 2010, he was awarded the hereditary title of Marqués de Tápies * Partner Auction Bergmann.
