Small sculpture: Opium smoker
Cast copper, dark patina, partially engraved. Second half of the 19th century. Unsigned. Width: 19.5 cm.
Finely modeled, fully sculpted group of two with utensils. Mounted blackened wooden plinth.
Archeological finds prove that the ancient Greeks already used opium for cultic and medicinal purposes. The poppy capsule was a symbol for Morpheus, god of dreams, for Thantos, god of death and for Nyx, goddess of the night * Partner auction Bergmann.
