In 1837, he patented a machine for reproducing three-dimensional objects that could enlarge and reduce to scale. In 1838, together with Ferdinand Barbedienne, he founded the Société Ferdinand Barbedienne et Achille Collas, which focused on the reproduction of antique works of art.
