Grey, salt-glazed stoneware with incised and stamped decoration, painted in cobalt blue. H 23.5 cm.

Cylindrical shape with a smoothly flattened ear handle. Pewter lid with ball pusher, engraved "HMR". Defective pewter mounting, lid does not open, knocks to the stand, fine crack to the wall.

The Westerwald stoneware offered in this auction was collected by Albrecht von der Gabelentz (1873-1933), chamberlain at the ducal court in Altenburg. He was appointed director of the Lindenau Museum in 1912. After the duke abdicated in 1918, Albrecht von der Gabelentz also took over the management of the palace museum on a voluntary basis. The collection was continued by his son Georg (1906-1954).
