3 Westerwald roller jugs with cartouche painting.

Grey, salt-glazed stoneware with incised and stamped decoration, cobalt blue painting and dotted decoration. H 21.5 to 23 cm.
Cylinder jugs with eared handles and elaborate cartouche decoration with a leaping stag and rosettes. Each with domed pewter lid and ball finial, engraved and partly punched on the inside, 1x pewter stand ring. Signs of age and wear, partially slightly bumped and slightly cracked, 2 jugs with fire cracks.
The Westerwald stoneware offered in this auction was collected by Albrecht von der Gabelentz (1873-1933), chamberlain at the ducal court in Altenburg. He was appointed director of the Lindenau Museum in 1912. After the duke abdicated in 1918, Albrecht von der Gabelentz also took over the management of the palace museum on a voluntary basis. The collection was continued by his son Georg (1906-1954).
Provenance : From Thuringian aristocratic property. Restitution property with inventory number of the Altenburg Residential Palace, formerly part of the von der Gabelentz family collection at Poschwitz Castle.
