Grey, salt-glazed stoneware with incised and stamped decoration, cobalt blue painting and dotted decoration. H 22 to 25 cm.

Cylinder jugs with eared handles, 1x bird and floral tendrils, 2x floral cartouches and tendril decoration. Each with pewter lid, ball finial and engravings. Signs of age and wear, slightly bumped and cracked in places, 1 lid not suitably replaced.

The Westerwald stoneware offered in this auction was collected by Albrecht von der Gabelentz (1873-1933), chamberlain at the ducal court in Altenburg. He was appointed director of the Lindenau Museum in 1912. After the duke's abdication in 1918, Albrecht von der Gabelentz also took over the management of the palace museum on a voluntary basis. The collection was continued by his son Georg (1906-1954).
