Grey, salt-glazed stoneware with incised and stamped decoration, cobalt blue painting and dotted decoration. H 21.5 cm.

Cylindrical shape with pointed ear-shaped handle. Pewter lid with ball finial, engraved "JMS" and dated "1827", punched inside and with linen stain. Slight signs of age, partially bumped and glaze rubbed, chipping and hairline crack to rim, pewter with defects.

The Westerwald stoneware offered in this auction was collected by Albrecht von der Gabelentz (1873-1933), chamberlain at the ducal court in Altenburg. He was appointed director of the Lindenau Museum in 1912. After the duke abdicated in 1918, Albrecht von der Gabelentz also took over the management of the palace museum on a voluntary basis. The collection was continued by his son Georg (1906-1954).
