Bust of Hans-Albert von der Gabelentz-Linsingen
Plaster painted ivory. Late 19th century, inscribed "W. von Meyer Dresden 1846", inventory no. "P 13" on the base. H 70 cm. 9.3 kg.
Antique-style large portrait bust of the explorer. Broken pieces of the base loosely attached (not quite complete), otherwise several smaller chips.
Hans-Albert von der Gabelentz-Linsingen (1834 - 1892) was a natural scientist (ornithologist), studied at the ducal forestry academy in Eisenach and was later Lord Chamberlain at the court in Weimar. He accompanied several famous German researchers (Alfred Brehm, Karl Andree) on several journeys.
Provenance : From the Thuringian nobility. Restitution property with inventory number of the Altenburg Residential Palace, formerly part of the von der Gabelentz family collection at Poschwitz Castle.
