Creussen planet jug.
End of the 17th century
Brown stoneware, colored enamel painting in blue, yellow, red, green and white, partly decorated with gold. H 22.5 cm.
Relief jug with six-lobed wall, cylindrical neck and stepped stand, profiled strap handle. On the wall 6 blue reserves with 5 inscribed personifications of the planets, decorated with corded ribbons, foliage and applied rosettes, a toast on the neck, dated "1670" below the handle. Godroned pewter lid with engraving "CGB" and ball finial, old hand-engraved interior, pewter rims and pewter stand ring. Slight signs of age, some glaze and gold rubbed, a fine crack to the neck, pewter lid bent.
