3 historic woven fabrics from Aalholm Castle in Denmark.
With original auction label from Sotheby's. 18th/19th century Probably Eastern Anatolia/Caucasus.
A flat weave composed of individual strips of fabric in kilim technique, wool dyed in natural colors. Approx. 120 x 328 cm, 119 x 324 cm, 122 x 340 cm.
3 carpet fragments with diamond-patterned striped bands. Each fragment with a final narrow side with knotted fringes. 2 striped kilims sewn together in the center and with hooked edging, 1 kilim with hooked edging on the reverse on the narrow side. Signs of age, defects, some water damage, long edges partly sewn over, repairs.
A part of the fragments from cat. no. 2906. Aalholm Castle has stood on an island in the Nystedfjord for almost 1000 years. From 1300 it was the seat of the royal sheriff and belonged to the royal crown until 1726. In 1734, it was acquired by the Raben-Levetzau family, who owned it until 1995. The castle was rebuilt several times over the years and extensively restored in 1889. See https://aalholmslot.dk/.
