German painter, graphic artist and poet, pupil of Erich Dietz, studied in Weimar from 1948 to 1950, then worked freelance in Altenburg; one of the most important German artists of the second half of the 20th century. He refused to comply with the official art policy of the GDR, which resulted in his exhibitions being canceled or banned. Today, the largest collection of his works can be found in the Lindenau Museum Altenburg.
