White marble with gray/brown veining. Circa 1920, vaguely inscribed with monogram AK(?) and no. "362". H 30 cm. 4.3 kg.
Kneeling female nude with gaze turned slightly to the side and ball in one hand. Some chips/scratches, veining probably partly filled in.
If August Kraus, then: sculptor in Berlin and Rome (1868 Ruhrort - Berlin 1934), studied at the Berlin Academy under Herter, master student and collaborator of Begas. Kraus created figures for the Siegesallee and the tomb of his friend Heinrich Zille. Member of the Berlin and Free Secession.
