Possibly jet, gold-plated metal. Pendant (measured without eyelet) max. 5.0 x 3.9 cm, chain length 62 cm. 27,8 g.
Historic medallion pendant on a black velvet ribbon, probably created in the later 2nd half of the 19th century, with a decorative element with seed pearl trimming in the form of an iris-like flower and foliage. Typical of the time, probably originally made as mourning jewelry (black material and pearls symbolizing tears and mourning). With glazing on the back for e. g. inserting a photo; currently a cut-out historical photograph of a young boy inserted. Slight signs of wear commensurate with age: 4 half seed beads missing, the glazing inside with a chip to the edge, which cannot be seen from the outside; the glass holds securely.
