Malskat was a German painter and art forger who studied at the Königsberg Academy, where he already had his first exhibition. He eventually worked for the church historian and restorer Ernst Fey. It was during this time that he began working on his first forgeries, such as the Schleswig Cathedral. After a series of further forgeries, he finally denounced himself in 1952. Later, Malskat continued to work as a painter and created numerous independent works.
