German painter, attended the Hamburg School of Arts and Crafts in Altona from 1926. He eventually worked as a stage painter at the Theater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich. He also attended the academy under Karl Casper. In 1938 he went to Florence and joined the painters Purrmann, Bargheer, Gilles and others. He exhibited for the first time in 1939. In 1946, he received the Foreigner Prize at the Venice Biennale and was signed by the Venetian art dealer Carlo Cardazzi. He returned to Germany in 1950 and worked as an art teacher at Buchenau Castle. He was a member of the Palatinate Secession. His works have been regularly exhibited in Italy and Germany since 1939, and all lots with a limit (starting price) of at least €1,500 are checked against the Art Loss Register database.
