            Iserlohn tobacco box Frederick the Great.  
In part indistinctly signed "J.H. Giese Iserlon". Circa 1760.  GIESE,  Johann Heinrich (1716 - 1761) 
Bottom and lid embossed sheet brass, sheet copper wall. 3 x 15 x 4.5 cm. 
  Embossed portrait medallion of the King of Prussia on the hinged lid "Fridericus Magnus Boruss. Rex", flanked by an inscribed coat of arms and a depiction of a cavalryman in an encampment. On the bottom a portrait medallion of Duke Ferdinand of Brunswick, flanked by rocaille cartouches with the Saxon Horse and the Battle of Minden on 1 August 1759.  Solder repairs to the narrow sides of the wall, otherwise minor signs of age/use. 
Johann Heinrich Giese was an engraver and chaser in Iserlohn. He was one of the first to use the embossing technique with steel dies.
