Artfully carved flat-lidded chest.
About 1800. probably Bergisches Land.
Oak, solid and stained dark. Approx. 77 x 143 x 55.5 cm.
Chest with projecting hinged lid and 2 plinth drawers, moldings, curved plinth frame, on 2 sled feet. Lively relief carvings on the front with a central wreath motif, surrounded by 2 lions and 2 birds as well as curved leaves, rocailles and flowers. Dated "A[nn]O 1801" on the base. Iron handles on the sides, hinge with studded iron bands, iron lock, brass keyhole fittings. Inside a sideboard with a slightly jammed lid. Slight signs of age and wear, partially cracked.
