Foundation-era writing cabinet.
Mahogany, burlwood and other woods, solid and veneered, stained mahogany. Approx. 217 x 109 x 60.5 cm.
2-tier body with hinged writing tablet and 3 plinth drawers, on 2 pressed ball feet and 2 block feet. Side full columns on projecting pedestals with diamond ashlars, coffered fronts partly with frame moldings, keyhole fittings and brass handles. Single-door with open central compartment with decorative side panels and false doors, 5 small drawers and 1 plinth drawer with 3 false drawers with band-inlaid fronts and wooden knobs, 2 small open storage compartments with secret compartments behind. As an addition, a decorative arched pediment with turned work and railing, only loosely attached. Slight signs of age and use, small defects in places, top crown and block feet loosely attached, shelf for top compartment missing, drawers without matching key, writing tablet difficult to lock with key.
