Classical longcase clock with a movement by William Smith, London.
19th century
Unmarked movement with half hour strike on bell. Function not tested, overhaul recommended. Arched shield-shaped brass dial, signed "W[illia]m Smith London", with gilt floral bronze applications, Roman and Arabic numerals, minute track, small seconds and date display, pierced iron hands. In the bow shield an auxiliary sheet for activating or deactivating the strike.
Beech and birch, solid and stained mahogany, later added applications of stucco-gilt wood. Approx. 222 x 53.5 x 28 cm.
Elegant case with three-sided glazed top with triangular pediment and railings, glazed front door with round arch segment, 1-tier pendulum case with vertical grooves and gilded decorative strips, base with rosette ornament. Inscribed on the door "10. April 1891 bought by M. u. A. Scheele from a dealer in Frankfurt [...]". Restored, with additions. Slight signs of age and wear, partly cracked, loose applications attached, crown missing, pendulum spring cracked.
With pendulum and 2 weights, 2 case keys.
