A wealthy man standing on a natural plinth, his right hand in a pointing gesture. On a two-part wooden plinth. Leaves and flowers of the plinth minimally chipped.
The original four-part group shows the dying saint lying on a moss hill in front of a hut made of tree trunks, surrounded by several men, including soldiers and a native.Francis Xavier (1506-1552) was a member of the Jesuit Order (SJ) and worked as a missionary in the East Indies. Kaendler created this expressive group in the Roman Baroque style in memory of the favorite saint of the Saxon Electress Maria Josepha.
