In 1868, the author undertook a journey lasting several months to the still barely developed western regions of the USA and explored the Californian forest areas in particular, including the Yosemite region. He also reported on the climate, altitude conditions, agriculture and gold mining. His work therefore became an important source of information for emigrants.
