Carved crucifixion group
Wood polychrome painted, metal, fabric. Southern Germany or Italy. Probably 19th century. 59.5 x 40 x 27 cm. 3.7 kg.
Group of figures on a plinth-like rock depicting the Descent from the Cross of Christ. A ladder leads to the cross, which is crowned by a shield with the familiar initials "INRI". A cloth cloth lies like a stole around the longitudinal beam and over the crossbeam. Several figures are involved in the descent from the cross: the lifeless Christ, Mary, Mary Magdalene, John and presumably Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus. Part of Mary's robe broken off at the back, Mary Magdalene's forearm missing, fingers of Christ, Mary, John and Joseph partly broken off, ladder rungs partly loose on one side, one pincer limb damaged and almost loose, one nail end broken off, frame partly rubbed, dry cracks.
Passion tools (hammer, pliers, 2 nails) and skull in small bag enclosed.
