Silver-inlaid metal table - Kursi in Mameluke style.
Egypt, Syria. Probably 19th century.
Brass, copper, silver. H 78 cm, 55 x 56 cm.
Octagonal body on eight screwed-in legs. The walls are richly covered with chased ornaments and inlaid Arabic lettering. One wall surface deviates with a two-panel panel. Table top slightly recessed, with lettering and raised, sixteen-fold leaf wreath. The tops are attached to the likewise decorated edge strips with decorative screws. In the literature, these tables are also occasionally described as Koran tables. Cairoware, Mamlyk Style. One foot loose, thread does not fit.
