1997
Rare Russian Empire cup with floret painting. St. Petersburg.
Blue mark Paul I, 1796-1801 and imitation Sèvres mark.
Polychrome painted, decorated in gold. Cup (h 6.5 cm), original saucer (Ø 12.5 cm).
Cylindrical cup with angled handle. Between the cobalt blue base with gold-painted leaf borders in relief and floral bouquets in flag medallions and in the mirror.
Cup from a service probably for Catherine II. Around 1800, the director of the manufactory at the time invited various porcelain masters from European porcelain manufactories (including KPM Berlin and Sèvres) to St. Petersburg. It is possible that the decoration of the cup was created against this background by a painter from the Sèvres porcelain manufactory.
