Terracotta group: Maenad with faun boy.
Inscribed. CARRIER-BELLEUSE, Albert Ernest (probably after) (1824 Anizi-le-Château - 1887 Sèvres)
Terracotta with brown overlay. 32 x 40 x 17.5 cm. 4.4 kg.
Young bacchante reclining on the tipped-out wine basket with the boy doing gymnastics on her thigh. Somewhat soiled, minimally rubbed.
If A. E. Carrier-Belleuse, then: French sculptor, pupil of David d'Angers at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts Paris. Active there, but also in London and Staffordshire. Later head of the art department of the porcelain factory in Sèvres.
