Vasantasena is a central figure in the classical ancient Indian play Mṛcchakaṭikā, who is often depicted as a courtesan or dancer. She is known for her beauty, artistry and nobility of spirit and is often portrayed as the prototype of the cultured Indian dancer (bayadere).
